The Millenium G450 demonstrated once again that Matrox was far behind in the 3D arena. One remark I particularly enjoyed was this one :

"A modern graphics card for 3D gamers has to provide high frame rates, it must come with fast memory and also support as many 3D functions as possible - without being too expensive. The Millennium G450 does not fulfill any of those criteria." (Tom's Hardware, Dec 8, 2000)

Tech Sheet

RAMDAC 360 Mhz
Technology 0.18 micron
Frequency 125 Mhz
Onboard RAM 16/32 MB SDR/DDR
RAM bus frequency 166 Mhz SDR/DDR
Render pipes 2

It should therefore come as no surprise if the only endorsement Matrox refers to is one that vaunts their card for "business users". Remember, Matrox is not trying to woo gamers (indeed, it cannot), it is trying to pry open more market space in the company desktop arena. And those managers don't have time to worry about Quake III framerates. They want to see nice-looking PowerPoint presentations, and maybe have that WinNT Pipe screensaver go a bit faster.
