TNT - October 1998
I do not know if they did anything else before, but the TNT chip was nvidias challenge to the Voodoo. It was also a cautious step in the lukewarm waters of a new market created by 3Dfx. As such, the TNT chip was a fair performer and its sales allowed nvidia to prepare a much fiercer wardog to go to battle. Unfortunately, the chip itself suffered marketing bloat and had to be downgraded before coming out. Announced at 8 million transistors and 250 Mtexels, it ended up with 6 million transistors and 180 Mtexels due to overheating with its 0.35 micron technology.
